Deliberate self-poisoning in adolescence: Why does a brief family intervention work in some cases and not others?
Article Abstract:
Improvements observed in non-depressed suicide attempters following family work were examined to determine if they were related to changes in family functioning or other variables. The results indicate that improvement amongst non-depressed suicide attempters was not linked to changes in family functioning as measured by the Family Assessment Device (FAD). It may be that a brief intervention is not sufficient to help certain families.

Brief home-based intervention with young suicide attempters and their families
Article Abstract:
Suicidal behavior among children and teenagers is a growing social problem. An intervention package is described that is designed to help youngsters and their families respond to suicide attempts in the family home. The five-session home-based intervention program or HBI seeks to minimize the probability of the occurrence of further suicide attempts. The program is short-term, focused and intensive.

Secondary prevention of attempted suicide in adolescence
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to examine the use in suicide prevention of tokens that would allow teenagers who have already been in hospitals after a suicide attempt to be re-admitted to the hospital on demand. The results suggest that adolescents who were given the tokens after being discharged from the hospital are less likely to make another suicide attempt than teenagers who are not given the tokens.
