Development and validation of the Satisfaction With Appearance Scale; assessing body image among burn-injured patients
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to develop and validate the Satisfaction With Appearance Scale (SWAP), a questionnaire assessing both the subjective appraisal and social-behavioral components of body image among burn survivors. Burn survivors completed psychometric instruments, including the SWAP, at one-week after hospital discharge. About 2 months after the initial assessment, participants were re-tested to evaluate test-retest validity. Correlations of the SWAP total score with other selected psychometric measures showed evidence for both convergent and discriminent validity.

Application to DSM-IV diagnostic criteria
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to describe the psychometric development of the fourth revision of the Interview for Diagnosis of Eating Disorders (IDED-IV). IDED-IV was tested for the purpose of differential diagnosis of eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. Internal consistency was found for symptom ratings relevant to all diagnosed eating disorders. Also, IDED-IV was found to yield very reliable data in tests of the interrater agreement for differential diagnosis of eating disorders.
