Discourse deficits associated with psychiatric disorders and with language impairments in children
Article Abstract:
It is important to try to distinguish between the discourse deficits associated with the language impairments and those linked with psychiatric problems in children. It has been established that children suffering from a psychiatric disorder tend to have less lexical complexity, fewer instances of complete pronominal reference and adversative reference and worse grammar than children who do not suffer from a psychological disorder. Children with a language impairment tend to have fewer subordinate clauses, fewer syntactically complex sentences, fewer average words per main clause and fewer instances of complete demonstrative reference and temporal cohesion.

Normative and pathological obsessive-compulsive behavior and ideation in childhood: a question of timing
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether obsessive-compulsive behavior declines over development, using a cross-sectional design on a large community sample of children 8-14 years of age. The Maudsley Obsessive Compulsive Inventory (MOCI) and the Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Scales were administered to gather data. Results revealed that obsessive ideas and compulsive behaviors common in 4th grade children were present only in a minority of 8th graders and were associated with high levels of anxiety. No gender differences were found for overall obsessive-compulsive behavior.

Planning and execution of action in children with and without developmental coordination disorder
Article Abstract:
Children identified as having developmental coordination disorder (DCD) based on the Movement Assessment Battery for Children were given tasks involving proprioception in the control and discrimination of limb position and in grip planning. Results showed that children with DCD performed less well on the majority of the proprioceptive tasks. Grip planning was found to improve with age.
