Physical and sexual abuse and their relation to psychiatric disorder and suicidal behavior among adolescents who are psychiatrically hospitalized
Article Abstract:
Physical and sexual abuse histories of psychiatrically hospitalized adolescents fail to predict the prevalence of psychiatric or suicidal behavior in this group of patients. However, the severity of sexual abuse is related to the types of coping strategies used. Adolescents who have experienced both physical and sexual abuse, or who have been severely sexually abused use more negative coping strategies than those who have been only sexually abused have or have been less severely sexually abused.
