Carnitine levels in patients with skeletal myopathy due to anorexia nervosa before and after refeeding
Article Abstract:
There is no evidence to back up a significant role for carnitine deficiency in the myopathy of anorexia nervosa (AN). Research undertaken among eight women suffering from AN and participating in a refeeding programme showed that there was no absolute deficiency in serum carnitine or a significant rise in levels upon refeeding. Serum-free carnitine levels were normal and did not change upon refeeding. There was no indication of lipid deposition, a key feature of carnitine deficiency.

Incidence and demographic correlates of eating disorder symptoms in a pregnant population
Article Abstract:
A survey involving 530 pregnant women attending antenatal clinics at St. George's Hospital, London, shows that eating disorders are highlighed in pregnancy. Some 92.8% took questionnaires, of which 79.4% were returned suitable for analysis. As pregnancy is a time when women are under medical care, and are keen to ensure they have healthy offspring, it could be a suitable time for addressing the problem.
