Does stress exacerbate parental differential treatment of siblings? A pattern-analytic approach
Article Abstract:
There is strong support for the notion that parental stress exacerbates parental differential treatment of siblings. Cluster analysis was used to develop a typology based on family members' perceptions of differential treatment by parents. The results show that parental differential treatment of siblings may well be exacerbated by stress, although the study was limited to the two eldest children in each family.

Sibling disability and children's reactivity to conflicts involving family members
Article Abstract:
The influence of a disabled sibling on children's reactions to disputes involving other family members has been examined. The hypothesis of greater concerns about family-related conflict amongst children with disabled siblings, that amongst children without disabled siblings, is supported by the results. Children living with a disabled sibling have more negative responses to family-related conflict.

Observed negativity in large family systems: Incidents and reactions
Article Abstract:
Expressed negativity based on marital quality, stepfamily status and child gender, was examined. Negativity commonly occurred in families with distressed marriages, but there were no differences in frequency by stepfamily status, child gender or respective speaker. However the presence of girls appeared to facilitate a more rapid recovery from the effects of negativity.
