The effect of perceived control over eating on the life satisfaction of women and men: results from a community sample
Article Abstract:
Researchers examined the relationship of both body mass index (BMI) and perceived eating control to life satisfaction. They gathered interview responses from a community sample of 2,032 men and women in four cities in California. Results indicated that both predictors had significant links with life satisfaction in women, but that perceived inability to control eating was linked to lower satisfaction with life. Only perceived lack of control over eating was linked to lower life satisfaction in men. Results also indicated BMI did not affect the relationship between eating control and life satisfaction.

Article Abstract:
A study on the predominance and the distribution of eating disorder behaviors in a community in South Australia revealed that binge eating and dieting are practiced by individuals in their early to mid thirties, while dieting and purging are noted to be prevalent in women than men. It was also observed that most of South Australia's older men and women have problematic eating disorders.
