The effects of alignability on memory
Article Abstract:
The process comparison is one of alignment and mapping between representational structures, according to structure-mapping theory. The theory suggests increased focus on corresponding information, whether they are commonalities or differences. The implications of the theory for memory are explored. Alignable differences were found to be better memory probes than nonalignable differences, indicating that corresponding information is more likely to be encoded and stored, than noncorresponding information.

Arousal-mediated memory consolidation: role of the medial temporal lobe in humans
Article Abstract:
The role of the medial temporal lobe in the human brain in arousal-memory interactions was investigated. Unilateral-temporal-lobectomy patients were tested in an experiment on an adaptation of Kleinsmith and Kaplan's (1963) classic arousal memory task. Results showed that the ability of the medial temporal lobe to influence arousal-mediated memory consolidation is conserved across species. The subjects did not exhibit differential forgetting rates for words that vary in their arousal characteristics.
