Helpless attributions and depression in adolescents: the roles of anxiety, event valence, and demographics
Article Abstract:
This article examines whether or not anxiety, event valence, and demographic variables influence the relationship between helpless attributions and teenage depression. The authors, maintaining helpless attribution is related to depression, argue demographic factors and anxiety may be related to helpless attributions in males.

Exposure to violence and parenting as mediators between poverty and psychological symptoms in urban African American adolescents
Article Abstract:
A conceptual model in which poverty is linked with adolescent psychological symptoms through economic stressors and impaired parenting is examined. Limited support was found for a model in which poverty is linked with internalizing symptoms through economic stressors and inconsistent discipline.

Hopelessness and risk behaviour among adolescents living in high-poverty inner-city neighbourhoods
Article Abstract:
This article examines the psychological effects of poverty-stricken inner-city life on teenagers. The authors, questioning 2468 inner-city teenagers, maintain a sense of hopelessness was the most cited response by both female and male teenagers in regards to their living environment.
