Identity, context, and development
Article Abstract:
A mutual interaction between the individual and the context takes place in the process of identity formation. The interaction is mediated through interpersonal processes, and the historical and cultural contexts of individuals. The lack of strong values in current society has resulted in the self to be regarded as an important value base. Identity diffusion, regarded as a less developed identity status, is increasingly substituting identity achievement as the cultural standard. Implications for research are suggested.

An empirical test of the identity capital model
Article Abstract:
The identity capital model was tested by using it to examine late-adolescent passage to adulthood. The model, which was developed to establish the relationship between identity formation and social context, was found to use concepts that can be accurately measured. Results also show that identity capital resources affect identity capital acquisition. Further research should be conducted on the developmental-social psychological aspect of identity formation.

Sociological perspectives on identity formation: the culture-identity link and identity capital
Article Abstract:
Cultures define the parameters of identity formation. Both culture and identity are interrelated, with the link defined in terms of three levels of analysis and three social-structural time periods. Social structure, interaction and personality are the levels of analysis. Any individual irrespective of social class should be able to acquire an identity-capital, which is the amount individuals invest in their persons.
