Impairment and distress associated with relationship discord in a national sample of married or cohabiting adults
Article Abstract:
The clinical significance of relationship discord is investigated in a nationally representative sample of married or cohabiting adults by examining the association between relationship discord and impairment and psychological distress, in terms of impaired social relationships with relatives and friends, work loss and cutback, general distress, perceived health and suicide ideation. Results revealed that relationship discord is associated with greater social and work role impairment, poorer perceived health, greater general distress and greater likelihood of suicide ideation.
