Leisure activities of adolescent schoolchildren
Article Abstract:
Awareness of adolescents' interests in leisure activities is important to understanding and aiding their psychological development. Therefore, 211 Irish students from a disadvantaged area were surveyed for the correlation between interest and participation in a variety of leisure activities. Music was high ranked by both girls and boys but otherwise there was little crossover between the sexes. Cultural and educational pursuits were not high ranked, possibly from a lack of opportunity, assuming some interest developed from the availability while participation may also be influenced. Sociable, passive activities were ranked high by both girls and boys.

Television viewing and adolescent authoritarianism
Article Abstract:
There is a positive relationship between the socio-political authoritarianism and the time devoted to television viewing among the 1,190 adolescents surveyed. The study of high school students in the north-east US revealed that abstract/cognitive ability is not an adequate explanation for the positive link despite being related to both authoritarianism and television viewing. According to the hypothesis of a mainstreaming pattern, television acts as a barrier to the political development in the higher social classes.

Brief report: Adaptation of the Italian version of the Tromso social intelligence scale to the adolescent population
Article Abstract:
Social intelligence is a construct that has shown promising practical applications, but its use in research and applied settings has been limited by definitional problems and the complexity of most existing measures of social intelligence. The Italian version of the Tromso Social Intelligence Scale is adapted to the adolescent population and the scale shows a good internal reliability and is unbiased in terms of social desirability response bias.
