Mental planning and the Tower of London task
Article Abstract:
This article examines the effects of mental planning on performance during a strategic task involving sequential moves. Findings indicate that people can plan ahead for a limited number of moves but the deliberate creation of a mental plan does not result in improved speed or accuracy.

This study investigates the mental heuristics used in problem-solving. Strategies involved in the solutions of logical problems include the use of forward planning to estimate future moves and memory-based retrospective planning to avoid repeating previous moves.
