Next too nothingness and being at the National Science Foundation
Article Abstract:
The 1990sgives an opportunity for more understanding and funding of the behavioral and social sciences in the National Science Foundation (NSF). It marks the achievement of the drive to create a separate directorate for social, behavioral and economic sciences within the NSF. During the process, a special task group suggested the division of the BBS into two directorates because of differences by the biologic, behavioral and social sciences. The formation of the directorate for the social, behavioral and economic science has at last achieved representation of the social sciences in the NSF.

Next to nothingness and being at the National Science Foundation: part I
Article Abstract:
A brief history of the National Science Foundation and the struggle of the socialsciences to be accepted into the foundation is presented. The National Science Foundation was established through the efforts of Vannevar Bush and Senator Harry Kilgore in 1950. The initial charter did not include the social sciences for three reasons. Social sciences were not considered sciences and if at all defined as one, it was considered as an applied not a basic science, and finally, it was thought of as a carrier of Marxist thought.

Next to nothingness and being at the National Science Foundation: part III
Article Abstract:
The National Science Foundation (NSF) budget has been unduly regulated by Congress since the mid-1970s. Conservatism has taken its toll when federal budgets for behavioral and social science research were cut. Conservatists argued that the government has the duty to fund researches that have practical applications only so as not to waste the taxpayers' money. Fortunately, NSF officials with the American Psychological Assn were able to unite and obtain fewer declines intheir budgets.
