Nurses' and patients' perceptions of the social climate in a forensic unit in Wales
Article Abstract:
The hospital's social climate affects both patients' and employees' attitudes, behavior and beliefs. The short form of the Correctional Institute Environmental Scale provided a way of studying the social climate a new forensic unitin Wales. The purpose of the project was to assess patients' and nursing staff's views of the clinic's social climate. Results showed a great deal of congruence between the two groups. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between the two groups on three of the nine subscales, those relating to practical orientation, autonomy, and staff control. However, both groups thought the level of staff control was low. The unit seemed to encourage patients and staff to have open and supportive relationships.

Family education for adults in correctional settings: a conceptual framework
Article Abstract:
The article discusses family education programs which aim to strengthen the family ties between prisoners and their families. A classification based on three criteria, program purpose, program content, and the level of interaction between professional and participant is suggested as a conceptual basis for such prison programs. An example of such a program is given.
