Obsessions and compulsions in Prader-Willi syndrome
Article Abstract:
The range and severity of non-food obsessive-compulsive symptoms in patients with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) indicates that the patients are at increased risk of developing obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Concerns with exactness and symmetry, the need to ask or tell, rewriting, ordering, and arranging are the most prominent symptoms of PWS patients. Most of the patients show symptom-related distress and adaptive impairment. The symptoms and symptom severity of PWS patients are highly similar to those of patients with OCD. Implications for therapeutic interventions are discussed.
