Practitioner review: communicating with hospitalised children: review and application of research pertaining to children's understanding of health and illness
Article Abstract:
There is extensive research into children's understanding of illness, health and their internal bodies. A review of this research indicates that there is a strong focus on what children are unable to achieve, rather than what they can achieve. However, there are now signs of a shift towards a view of children as having the potential to understand a considerable amount about their experience of illness and hospitalization. It will become increasingly important for all those working in the area of child health to be fully aware of contemporary issues relating to communicating with children and ways in which children see the world.

The psychological impact of war and the refugee situation on South Sudanese children in refugee camps in Nothern Uganda: an exploratory study
Article Abstract:
South Sudanese children who have fled war and are living as refugees in Uganda have been compared to Ugandan children who have not undergone such experiences. The South Sudanese children showed less satisfaction with social support, which may be related to losing some of their social networks, and to their parents having been affected by trauma. The Sudanese children also reported more behavioral problems, depressive complaints and symptoms related to the aftermath of trauma. These children also employed more coping modes.
