Predicting marital and parent functioning in dyads and triads: a longitudinal investigation of marital processes
Article Abstract:
A longitudinal analysis of 25 couples' marital communication before parenthood and five years later is conducted. The study aims to determine the effects of prechild marital quality on parent-child relationships and family level functioning. Results reveal that the quality of marriage before the birth of children has a significant impact on later marital interaction with children. Furthermore, early marital conflicts are more likely to continue and affect triadic interactions.

Physical aggression and marital dysfunction: a longitudinal analysis
Article Abstract:
A study of 56 couples finds that marital dysfunction is more prevalent in relationships where there is physical aggression, with particular emphasis on relationships where the aggression is severe. The findings are important for marital distress prevention programs which do not usually identify aggressive and non-aggressive couples.
