Purines and receptors
Article Abstract:
The 5th annual Neuropharmacology conference held in New Orleans, LA, featured several topics on purines and receptors. These include the distribution of G-protein-coupled P2Y receptors and P2X receptors, the introduction of the superkiller concept and HINT proteins and the role of suramin as an inhibitor of receptor-G-protein coupling. Building (potassium) channels to the 21st century
Article Abstract:
A conference on neuropharmacology was held in Washington, DC, in Nov. 1996 and was attended by 400 participants. The event primarily discussed the role of potassium channels which play a big role in excitable cells and neuromodulation as well as plasticity. The proliferation of potassium channel clones shows that intensive research is underway and that more clones will eventually be identified.
