Relationships during adolescence: constructive vs. negative themes and relational dissatisfaction
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken among adolescents in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium has sought to identify constructive and negative themes in adolescents' social relationships and to assess feelings of dissatisfaction with and loneliness in relationships with peers and parents. It was established that there is uniformity across cultures in the sequence with which the various relationship issues emerge during the individuation process. The relational readjustments identified by this research highlight the process of separation from parents.

Article Abstract:
Emotional autonomy and its developmental outcomes are discussed in the context of the parenting process as perceived by adolescents, in a sample of adolescent boys and girls from the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. Authoritativeness was linked to positive patterns of adjustment, with autonomy linked to negative patterns, apart from self-reliance.
