Sibling interaction of children with learning disabilities: a comparison of Autism and Down's Syndrome
Article Abstract:
Autistic children and those with Down's syndrome seem to have different ways of interacting with siblings. Learning disabled children seem responsive and autistic ones seem to have impoverished interpersonal reactions. A home observation of 30 sibling pairs partly confirmed this theory. Autistic children interacted less than learning disabled ones but did respond when siblings started an interaction. Thus, sibling encounters are unique opportunities for such children to learn about interpersonal relationships.
