Social desirability effects on measures of adjustment to university, independence from parents and self-efficacy
Article Abstract:
Regression analysis of 96 first-year undergraduates shows that social desirability test results as measured by the Jackson Social Desirability Scale are similar to results from the Student Adaptions to College Questionnaire, the Hale-Fibel Generalized Expectation for Success Scale and the Psychological Separation Inventory test. Inability to eliminate the effects of social desirability from the measures causes inflated estimates of their importance.

Self-esteem and self-efficacy; perceived parenting and family climate; and depression in university students
Article Abstract:
A study of 186 personality attributes of college students to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and self-esteem, adverse family atmosphere and unfavorable parent rearing style (PRS) reveals a remarkable correlation between self-efficacy and self-esteem for a perceived PRS of 'affectionless control.' Depression and introversion failed to control the association between self-esteem and socialization.

Depressed and anxious moods mediate relations among perceived socialization, self-focused attention, and dysfunctional attitudes
Article Abstract:
Three factors were studied for their effect on an individual's predilection toward depression and anxiety. These factors are family interactions, self-focused attention and current depression and anxiety symptoms. A study of 173 undergraduates was undertaken to evaluate the effect of these factors.
