Some biological underpinnings of the self-image
Article Abstract:
High population density causes a shift in reproductive strategies toward selection K, in which fewer offspring are produced and competitiveness is emphasized. Under extreme conditions a stress syndrome appears, with increased aggressiveness and elevated mortality rates. In humans, psychological effects of high population density result from restricted possibilities for self-realization with concomitant intensification of anxiety and aggression.

The myth of the invulnerable self of adolescence
Article Abstract:
The theory of adolescent invulnerability has sociocultural biases. The theory stemmed from views of adolescents with comfortable lifestyles who did not have to worry about basic survival. Feelings of vulnerability come from adolescents who do not have comfortable, safe, and stable environments. Feelings of invulnerability are not intrinsic to the adolescent state, but depend on the circumstances of the individual.
