Structural limits on verb mapping: the role of analogy in children's interpretations of sentences
Article Abstract:
Analogical verb mapping enhances children's interpretation of sentences. Sentence structure serves structural cues to verb interpretation even when innate rules, linking grammatical categories with semantic ones, are hidden. The findings suggest an alternative route from structure to verb meaning. Analogical mapping procedure is presented as an explanation of such an alternative route. Three experimental studies provide basis for this conclusion.

The misinterpretation of noncanonical sentences
Article Abstract:
A description of three experiments is provided to check the concept that unambiguous sentences are processed both algorithmically and heuristically. The outcome of these experiments infers that simple heuristics and syntactic algorithms are used for only a superficial processing of sentences, without providing a comprehensive representation of semantics.

Thematic roles assigned along the garden path linger
Article Abstract:
Partial reanalysis of garden path sentences has been examined in a series of five experiments. Garden path sentences are sentences in which an incorrect syntactic representation is initially made, followed by a reanalysis. 'While the man hunted the deer ran into the woods' is an example of a garden path sentence.
