Suggested recommendations for the study of suicide and other life-threatening behaviors
Article Abstract:
Recommendations for improving the quality of scientific research on suicide and interpersonal violence are presented. Suggestions include the clear definition of specific life-threatening behavior, avoidance of the extrapolation of profiles of the characteristics of at-risk individuals based on large group studies and the extensive use of control groups and experimental designs. The publication of negative findings and the use of prospective and other longitudinal studies are also highly encouraged.

Writing this was instrumental, whatever my intent: a comment
Article Abstract:
A study which proposed a nomenclature for suicide-related behaviors is evaluated. The study is praised for providing an accurate structure of terms as well as improved superset/subset relationships between terms. However, the study's classification of the term 'suicide threat' under the instrumental behaviors category is disputed. It is suggested that a new category be created for classifying threats with and without suicidal intent.

Article Abstract:
Mental health physicians are paying more attention to the demographic aspects of suicidal behavior to develop more effective suicide prevention programs. They continue to conduct studies designed to determine the risk factors to suicide to understand better the behavior of suicide victims across all age groups. Likewise, the physicians also identified the need for increased community participation in suicide intervention programs.
