The development of a clozapine treatment program for offenders in a correctional mental health prison
Article Abstract:
Clozapine was used for schizophrenic offenders at a psychiatric facility near Seattle, WA, and produced a notable decrease in infractions. Most participants reported fewer auditory hallucinations and less anger, but the absence of hallucinations led to increased feelings of emptiness and depression. Some participants also engaged in increased antisocial behavior, which was to be expected as psychotic symptoms decreased. The most common side effects of the medication included drowsiness, constipation and dry mouth.

The Minnesota SOST and sexual reoffending in North Dakota: a retrospective study
Article Abstract:
The Minnesota Sex Offender Screening Tool (MnSOST) is a 21-item scale to aid in classifying sex offenders and predicting the risk of reoffense. Among the strongest indicators of reoffense were number of sexual offenses, age at first offense, age of victims, length of offender history and chemical dependency treatment. Information from the Minnesota Department of Corrections indicates that the MnSOST is a valid and useful predictor of reoffense.

Correctional officers: how do they perceive sex offenders?
Article Abstract:
Correctional personnel surveyed on their attitudes toward sex offenders tended to perceive these criminals more negatively than non-sex offenders. The officers' also viewed sex offenders against children more negatively than offenders against women, and believed that sex offenders were generally more mentally ill than other criminals. Additional training could aid officers in their management of these offenders.
