Suicidal ideation in high school students: depression and other correlates

Article Abstract:

There is a relationship between various factors such as drug use, stress, family status, academic performance, social support, and age on suicidal tendencies in adolescents. Suicidal ideation in young people, especially high school students has been a major cause for concern for parents, teachers and doctors in the recent years. The removal of the cause of depression results in a decrease in connection between the above factors, except where alcohol and drugs are used. Problems at school and children from single-parents figure quite high on the list of factors causing this tendency.

An integrative conceptual framework for assessing and treating suicidal behavior in adolescents

Article Abstract:

Psychotherapists use a range of methods to assess suicide risk in adolescents and a range of therapeutic interventions to address the findings. The variety of approaches is due to the complex and varied nature of adolescent suicide, and to the lack of research into what works best in a particular type of patient. A new framework provides an integrated approach to assessing and treating adolescent suicidal behavior, and also outlines the role and limitations of psychotherapy in this area.

Article Abstract:

A study of Modified Scale for Suicidal Ideation (MSSI) on suicide ideators and attempters confirms the earlier reliability estimates and gives sound proof of the scale's concurrent, construct, discriminate, and predictive validity. The MSSI holds great prospect for the clinical risk assessment of suicidal patients. It is reliable and useful for paraprofessionals as it gives extensive coverage of cognitive and behavioral aspects of suicide idealation.
