Long-term retention in 3.5-month-olds: familiarization time and individual differences in attentional style
Article Abstract:
This article examines the effects of familiarization variables on long-term memory in infants. Findings indicate that infants who gazed at dynamic visual stimuli for shorter durations had improved long-term retention which suggests that retention is influenced by attentional style differences between infants.

Independent paths in the development of infant learning and forgetting
Article Abstract:
Research suggests that infants experience developmental declines in forgetting rates independently of developmental learning differences between 12 months and 18 months old. Studies also indicate that there is no strong link between forgetting rate and learning difficulty. Path analytic procedures were used, with the subsequent results found to be inconsistent with traditional forgetting theories. The long-term retention study involved 50 infants aged 18 months and 50 aged 15 months.

The ebb and flow of infant attentional preferences: evidence for long-term recognition memory in 3-month-olds
Article Abstract:
Three-month-old babies' recognition of dynamic visual events was studied utilizing paired-comparisons after retention levels of 1 min, 1 day and 1 and 3 months, and 1 min, 1 day and 1 week. There were significant novelty preferences at 1 min and 1 day and a null preference at 1 week for Multiple- and Single-Test groups. At 1 month, Multiple- and Single-Test groups preferred the familiar event. The 3-month test showed a familiarity preference for Single- and a null preference for Multiple-Tests groups.
