A task analysis of the shift from teacher instructions to self-instructions in performing an in-common task
Article Abstract:
The interspersal of taught self-instructions among infrequent trials of task analysis helps children in performing the sorting tasks correctly by developing correct self-instruction about them. This effect is generalized to new target tasks involving different stimulus sets. Correct spontaneous self-instructions about the target sorts gradually increase with subsequent trials. However, the taught skills of self-instruction fail affect the in-common task discrimination.

Use of self-instruction to extend the generalization of a self-instructed in-common discrimination
Article Abstract:
Some children have developmental problems related to the determination of common characteristics within a certain group. A study was made to determine ways of improving their discriminating abilities of finding in-common qualities. Self-instructions were found to be effective in solving tests related to such cognitive functions. Sorting problems with two elements was generally harder than sorting those with only one common element.
