The efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of major depression in women
Article Abstract:
The effectiveness of acupuncture as an alternative treatment for depression in women has been studied. Thirty-eight women were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups. Specific treatment involving acupuncture was used to treat depression. Non-specific treatment using acupuncture was given for symptoms that were not related to depression. Results show significant improvement on patients undergoing specific acupuncture treatment than on patients receiving non-specific treatment. This finding suggests that acupuncture can be used to relieve symptoms of depression.

Article Abstract:
Treating comorbid depression and anxiety entails aggressive therapy and a combination of psychopharmacoloy and psychotherapy. It is essential that the disease is accurately diagnosed. Diagnosis can be done by careful analysis of the symptoms and the presence or absence of negative affect. Drug choices in the treatment of comorbid depression and anxiety include tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Psychotherapy must be used only as an adjunct to drug therapy and for cases in which psychopharmacology is contraindicated.

Journal of Marital and Family Therapy
Article Abstract:
Children in families undergoing family therapy want to be a part of the therapeutic process. All, with the exception of the youngest children, understood the objectives of therapy. They considered play an essential part of therapy and expressed preferences for certain traits and characteristics of therapists. Findings of a study on preadolescent children's experiences with family therapy also indicated the importance of action-oriented techniques.
