The role of contrast categories in natural language concepts
Article Abstract:
No effects were found for contrast categories on within-category structure of natural language concepts, a result that was not expected according to prototype and exemplar models of concepts. Topics discussed include contrast categories for superordinate concepts, intension-based and extension-based predictions for typicality ratings and reaction time in superordinate concepts, contrast categories obtained by clustering, multiple contrast categories, effects of contrast categories in a forced-choice classification task, contrast categories in basic level concepts, and multiple contrast categories for basic level concepts.
