Article Abstract:
Bullying takes place relatively frequently in Italian schools, according to research undertaken among 113 girls and 125 boys at a middle school in Rome, Italy. Girls tend to be the victims of bullying more often than boys, but overall, 56.7% of students had not been bullied at all in the previous three months, with 13.9% having been bullied once or twice, 14.7% sometimes and 14.7% once a week or more frequently. Most students who were bullied were physically hurt or called names, or indirectly attacked through rejection or the spreading of rumours.

Participant role approach to school bullying: implications for interventions
Article Abstract:
Bullying involves groups and the different members of school classes take on different roles in bullying. Peer group power influences bullying, so can also be used to combat it. Peers can take action against bullying in informal ways, after interventions geared to all of the peer group. Peers can also be used as peer counselors, in a formal role. Counseling can then be focused on students participating in bullying in different ways, and not just on the victims of bullying.
