Uncovering the structure of a memorist's superior "basic" memory capacity
Article Abstract:
Thompson, Cowan and Frieman proposed after extensive laboratory testing of the famous memorist Rajan, that he was innately endowed with superior memory capacity for digits and letters and thus violated the hypothesis that exceptional memory fully reflects acquired 'skilled memory.' A general experiment approach for studying the structure of exceptional memory and the ways in which Rajan's unique structure is consistent with the general theoretical framework of long-term working memory is described.

Exploring automaticity in text processing: syntactic ambiguity as a test case
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to advocate conceptualization of automaticity in terms of underlying mechanisms and evaluates a computational -efficiency account and a memory-based processing account. Short texts containing either an ambiguous or unambiguous syntactic structure are presented and in both conditions it was found that reading times in target regions decreased across trials, indicating automatization.
