Use of the Mental Health Inventory with adolescents: a secondary analysis of the Rand Health Insurance Study
Article Abstract:
The usefulness of the Rand Mental Health Inventory (MHI) is reconfirmed while assessing the mental health of a large number of adolescents who participated in a community based Rand Health Insurance Study. Results confirmed the reliability and readability of the MHI. Factor analyses reveals subscales reflecting psychological well-being and psychological distress. With its adolescent norms, the MHI is recommended for the assessment of adolescent mental health particularly in comparison with nonpsychiatric, normative adolescents.

The Cognition Rating Form: a new approach to assessing self-generated cognitions in adolescent sentence completions
Article Abstract:
The Cognitive Rating Form (CRF) is a reliable and valid tool for assessing self-generated cognitions in sentence completion tasks such as the Rotter Incomplete Sentences Blank. CRF shows adequate interrater agreement and internal consistency. Factor analysis of CRF factors shows that Negative Cognitions can discriminate between adolescent psychiatric inpatient and high school students. CRF gives concurrently valid measures of depression, hopelessness, self-esteem, and depressive-anxious thoughts.

Measuring self-critical and interpersonal preoccupations in an adolescent inpatient sample
Article Abstract:
The validity of the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire (DEQ) and its use in studying depression in an adolescent inpatient sample, is examined. Observed responses to a subset of items were found to beter fit a model positing separate Interpersonal and Self-Criticism factors, rather than Dysphoric Concerns factor. The scales' concurrent validty was confirmed after assessing confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) results.
