Inferring Personal Qualities Through Handwriting Analysis
Article Abstract:
Psychologists have long been interested in hand-writing analysis, but scientific research has not been equal to the growth of interest. The current status and principal elements of handwriting analysis are featured. Methods of script analysis are reviewed, as are integration procedures for graphological inferences. Two elemental psychometric considerations, reliability and validity, are used to analyze the phenomenon of personal quality inference. Script sample impact is analyzed, as is the skill necessary for script analysis. Applied use of the research on this area may be too early. While findings suffer from research negligence, they point toward the lack of viability of graphology as a personality measurement method. A majority of European firms use graphology as a hiring tool, though recent research points to a lack of validity in this practice.
