Where are the motives? A problem with evidence in the work of Richard Thaler
Article Abstract:
Richard Thaler, in his work on the motives that drive individuals' economic behavior, fails to present evidence about motives and instead presents evidence about behavior. This problem renders his conclusions vulnerable. Thaler has claimed that wine owners' tendency not to buy or sell wine at auction results from their tendency to be loss averse. Two alternative motives that could explain the wine owners' seemingly anomalous behavior are posited.

Testing the impact of trying in behavior intervention
Article Abstract:
The trying process is impacted largely by the repetition of trying and the recency of past trying. The simulation methodology that is utilized in the research is deemed to bear a direct influence on behavior intervention programs aimed at hard-core cigarette smokers, alcoholics and others. Trying serves as the answer to understanding how smoking cessation and related behaviors turn out successfully or not.

Child care use, earnings, and retention desires of wives of employees - US Army officers' study
Article Abstract:
The results of a study of US Army officers' wives support the validity of a balanced-satisfaction model designed to predict couples' employment decisions. The study showed that a wife's satisfaction with Army life is positively associated with an increase in her earnings and with her desire for the Army to retain her husband and negatively associated with an increase in child-care costs.
