Reassurance in analytic therapy
Article Abstract:
The concept of providing reassurance in response to psychoanalysis patients' apprehensions has changed since Alexander Reid Martin's "Reassurance in Therapy" was published in 1949. Analysis is now viewed as more of a dialogue between patient and analyst, with the two working together, instead of simply a therapist determining what lies behind a person's fears. Martin's insistence on a personal connection with the patient better reflects how solace is provided to patients presently, while his concept of the unity of the self seems outdated.

"As far as possible": discovering our limits and finding ourselves
Article Abstract:
Psychoanalysts discover their professional potential when they explore the limits to which they can become emotionally involved with patients. Limits arise when therapeutic sessions activate personal issues in psychoanalysts, or when patients become uncomfortable with the session. The psychoanalyst's issues are resolved by working with another psychoanalyst and such resolution may lead to healthier, more clinically sound practices. The works of Sandor Ferenczi can be used as tools for this process.
