Why do people stay in hateful relationships? The concept of malignant vindictiveness
Article Abstract:
The author believes that people often live in unhappy relationships because they become psychologically dependent on their conflict with the other person. Their anger against the other person externalizes their own personal problems. The author calls this cycle of conflict 'malignant vindictiveness.' A case study of woman and her emotionally abusive husband is presented.
