Breaking the traffic jam: Laserserver
Article Abstract:
Dataspace Corp's Laserserver is a fast and reliable hardware-software combination that lets users transfer files to the spooler instead of the printer, which means people can get back to work instead of waiting for the printer to become available. The $2,295 product has 2Mbytes of memory and the capacity for another 10Mbytes with add-on boards; the program also operates as a spooled file manager for a network of up to 32 Macintoshes. Weak points include the inability to use manually downloaded fonts and the need to modify some Postscript files before printing. The speed and reliability of the product more than make up for these minor shortcomings, however; it is highly recommended for anyone looking for a network print spooler.
