Color in your future: desktops connect to Scitex, Hell
Article Abstract:
Desktop publishing products are expected this summer that will permit sending electronic layouts to Scitex and Hell color prepress computer systems. Scitex Corp and Quark Inc will release Handshake Xpress, a program to electronically transfer page layouts to the Scitex system. Prepress Link from Lightspeed Systems Inc transfers its Color Layout System files to the Scitex and Hell prepress systems where color separation is performed. The desktop color prepress workstation, Page Express, from Networked Picture Systems has an optional direct electronic connection to a Scitex system. Available now is a $5,000 Handshake translation program from Scitex that permits two-way data transfer between personal computers and Scitex systems.

Scitex EverSmart Jazz
Article Abstract:
Scitex's EverSmart line of scanners, priced from $12,950 to $15,950, are state-of-the-art flatbed scanners with four models from which to choose. The EverSmart Jazz and EverSmart Jazz+ are priced lower and lack some high productivity features that are not necessary for most users. The Jazz scans 15 pages per hour, the Jazz+ scans 20 per hour, which is much slower than the high-end systems but sufficient for most companies. They offer maximum resolutions of 2,000 dpi for the Jazz and 2,540 dpi for the Jazz+, and offer uncompromised, professional-quality output. The ability to scan transparencies or reflective materials at high resolution makes these scanners an exceptional value at their price points.

EverSmart Supreme
Article Abstract:
Scitex America's $54,950 EverSmart Supreme (ESS) is an outstanding flat-bed scanner that generates high-resolution output with good tonal range. The ESS is much improved compared with its predecessor, the Eversmart Pro, and could substitute for a drum scanner at about half the price. The ESS costs about $20,000 more than an EverSmart Pro, but it has more features and is recommended for those who need the best possible shadow detail and ultra-high resolution.
