Welcome QuarkXPress for Windows
Article Abstract:
Quark Inc's QuarkXPress 3.1 for Windows is a desktop publishing software package that provides users with a powerful new tool in the Microsoft Windows environment. But those interested in working on long documents will find Ventura Publisher more useful and those who use their desktop publishing software only occasionally should probably continue working with PageMaker. Microcomputer designers and production specialists, however, will find the $895 program worth considering. QuarkXPress features a document layout palette that allows users to easily create as many as 127 master formats that can be applied to any document page. It also allows up to seven files to be open at once, and includes a kerning pair editor. QuarkXPress does not automatically renumber sections and does not have an automatic table of contents or index generating function that other programs feature.

A 'hole' new dimension to QuarkXpress 4.0
Article Abstract:
QuarkXpress 4.0 has gained advanced graphics features, including merge commands that allow designers to combine multiple, complex shapes into a single Bezier item. QuarkXpress 4.0 includes six merge commands: Intersection, Union, Combine, Difference, Reverse Difference and Exclusive Or. Using the commands is relatively straightforward, requiring the user to select two or more items with either the item or content tool and then select one of the commands from the Merge submenu on the Item menu. The resulting single shape then takes on the attributes of the rearmost item. The key to using these Merge commands successfully is to be aware of the layering order because the rearmost item controls the attributes of the resulting merged shape. It is also important to choose carefully which are to be shapes to be used.
