Iraq's post-Saddam media
Article Abstract:
The transition to free and independent media is never an easy task and it is all the more difficult in Iraq's constantly shifting political landscape and against the backdrop of a cycle of violence with no end in sight. In the absence of any regulatory framework, the authorities feared stations were inciting violence during volatile times and ordered the shut-down of Al-Jazaeera and Al-Arabyia for short periods of time.

Article Abstract:
Ten countries joined the European Union (EU) on May 1, 2004. Journalists still face obstacles on their way to free press as it is found that a combination of recent history, current economic weakness and unwillingness to surrender past perquisites continue to hamper free press development from the Baltic to the Adriatic.
