Mac offers Unique approach to DTV
Article Abstract:
Jon Leland, writer, director and producer for video production company Communication Bridges (Mill Valley, CA), and his staff employed an Apple Macintosh IIfx, graphics software and desktop video (DTV) technology to produce a 12-minute video brochure for Unique Products (Reno, NV) in only ten days. Unique Products needed to describe how its colloid products could be used to combat environmental pollution. The Communications Bridges Mac IIfx included 8Mbytes of RAM, 195Mbyte hard disk drive, Truevision's NuVista to output animations to videotape and external 45Mbyte removable-cartridge drive. Software employed included Letraset ColorStudio and Adobe Photoshop to create graphics and MacroMind Director to create animation segments. The animation and stock video footage and music were combined on the videotape. Details of the production process are discussed. Leland feels that the Macintosh is the superior hardware environment for production of 24-bit graphics.

Home is where the (PC-spun) art is
Article Abstract:
Digital Design Simulations (DDS) uses IBM PC-compatibles, Autodesk Inc's 3D Studio and other tools to produce video simulations that enable art consultant Janet Disraeli of Disraeli and Associates to send real estate developers and property managers videotapes of how artwork would look in their projects. Previously, the consultant had to ship the actual pieces to her clients so they could see how the art would look in their spaces. This was expensive, and the art could be damaged. DDS creates animated generic or client-specific architectural and interior settings in which images of various pieces of art can be installed. The company uses a DiaQuest controller to output the animation to videotape and edits the videotape with three Sony broadcast videotape decks. Disraeli and Assoc uses portions of several animations in a 10-minute video brochure to introduce the firm's services to prospective clients.
