New desktop-to-prepress links: special bulletin: DRUPA 90
Article Abstract:
The spring 1990 DRUPA international paper and printing industry trade show in Dusseldorf, West Germany, saw new products that provide desktop-to-prepress connectivity via Adobe PostScript. Linotype introduced its $220,000-plus LinoColor system, including software for making full-color page separations on enhanced Mac IIfx computers, Linotronic 330 imagesetter, storage systems and scanner. Scitex announced the $70,000 PS Bridge (the V.I.P./2 in the US), which converts PostScript data files into Scitex format. Varityper teams with Pre-Press technologies and Hoescht Celanese to offer a $150,000-$250,000 system which produces color proofs from scanned images. Crosfield debuts its Studiolink software version 2.1, which supports all major desktop publishing packages. Agfa unveils the Colorscape products, which combine color prepress software, Sun workstations, and color scanning and imagesetting hardware.
