The Ventura Publisher Gold Series: Windows Edition utilizes Microsoft Corp's Windows 3.0 graphical user interface for MS-DOS. The product replaces Ventura's menu bar with pop-up windows that can can be resized, moved, and removed from the screen. Windows also allow the viewing of several programs at once. Files are easily imported from a graphics program. Multitasking is possible on Intel 80286-based machines with at least 3Mbytes of RAM. The new macro recorder saves time by combining a series of keystrokes into one command. Ventura 2.0's Professional Extension and its Network Server utilities are included. The program lacks a simple method for deleting files associated with a particular chapter. It also lacks color support, and requires better ways to revise documents. The list price is $895. An upgrade costs $250.

Corel's page layout program, Ventura, emerged from obscurity with the release of version 8. This upgrade was found to be much easier to use and loaded with features. The product has been standardized with Corel's other products. This new version is more customizable than past versions. Many useful products come bundled with the suite, including Corel Photo-Paint, WordPerfect 8 and Corel DataBase Publisher 8. This new product is likely to attract to attract new users and keep current users satisfied. The cost for Corel Ventura 8 is $695; registered owners of CorelDraw or WordPerfect Suite 8 can receive Corel Ventura 8 for only $199.
