Overhead transparencies are the media of choice for presentations to small audiences in which interaction and spontaneity are essential. With overhead transparencies, presentations can be made with the lights on, overheads can be written on while projected on the screen, and minimal investment in hardware is required to produce black-and-white transparencies. When using overhead transparencies, it is important to use film made especially made for the printing equipment being used, and to mount transparencies in frames. Avoid putting too much data on one overhead, and restrict use of graphs to the essentials. Too much flair or too many typefaces can bury rather than enhance information being presented. Use of lines, borders, or logos should be consistent, and should add emphasis rather than clutter. Using color complicates both the design and production of overheads. A simple and consistent presentation is most effective for delivering a clear message that is to the point.

IBM introduces version 2.0 of its PC Storyboard Plus graphics package with a new interface, support for most PC graphics modes, from CGA to extended VGA, and five specialized modules that provide all the tools necessary to create effective on-screen presentations. Visuals are created using either the Text Maker or Picture Maker module, the presentation is organized using the Story Maker module, and is played back using the Story Teller module.
