Article Abstract:

The Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin puts out a newsletter three times a year. The newsletter does not encourage the reader to pick it up. The cover page is the solid text of one article and offers the reader no place to start reading comfortably. The newsletter should maintain a serious tone, but it need not appear dull. A Mexican motif border that immediately reflects the newsletter's subject matter can be added to the cover page and reused throughout the newsletter, still maintaining a serious tone. Different points of entry for the reader, such as a photo with a caption and two stories on the front instead of one, make it easier for the reader to get involved. By using a body text that is warmer, such as Stone Serif, and by keeping the text in narrow, readable columns, the newsletter is made more readable and attractive.

Page makeover: set a single style to give your company a strong identity

Article Abstract:

Establishing a consistency among all of a company's printed communications helps to convey a corporate image clearly. Recurring, distinctive design elements give readers a sense of familiarity and dependability. As a first step, a company logo should be created and used on all company documents. Next, typewritten forms should be replaced with typeset ones. Examples of the makeover of a company's documents are shown.
