Persuasion on the pc is a winner

Article Abstract:

Aldus Corp (Seattle, WA) introduces Aldus Persuasion 2.0 for Windows, a $595 presentation software package for the Microsoft Windows 3.0 environment. The software shares 90 percent of the features of the original Macintosh version. Features include advanced presentation and 35mm slide output, word processor, Slide Sorter for previewing and reorganizing slides for presentations, outlining, and charting and drawing capabilities. New features in the Windows-based version include PageMaker file filters, better control of letter and word spacing, treatment of each presentation as a separate file, and a palette of colors, fills and line widths. Persuasion 2.0 for Windows does not use Windows' dynamic data exchange capabilities. Minimum host requirements are an Intel 80286-based IBM-compatible microcomputer, 1Mbyte of system memory, hard disk, EGA display and mouse.

Altered States

Article Abstract:

Letraset's Image Studio allows desktop publishers to retouch images using gray-scale editing tools. The $495 Apple Macintosh program requires a 1Mbyte hard disk (gray-scale monitor and extended video memory recommended) and can repair, manipulate, and combine photos, then save the final image and import it into the page layout. The program offers excellent paint, filtering, zoom and grabber tools and makes it possible for a user to customize a tool's function. The program does have some problems. It does not automatically scroll, users lose some control when they rotate an object, and only one file can be opened at time. Despite these minor flaws, it it a useful and exciting program that offers solid practicality and opportunities for creative expression.
