Fast times @ Digital High
Article Abstract:
High school students are using electronic-publishing capabilities to transform their yearbooks into sophisticated, computer-designed offerings. Apple's dominance in the education market remains solid in this market where most yearbooks are produced on Macintosh computers using Adobe Systems' PageMaker page layout software. Photoshop is also popular for adding special effects to photographs and illustrations and for performing basic production work. Digital cameras facilitate the technological process by saving the money and time previously used on developing and scanning traditional photos. These developments are complicated by many school's budgetary limitations that require many departments to share computer equipment.

Color lasers hit the spot
Article Abstract:
Color laser printers are becoming popular alternatives to expensive dye sublimation printers, particularly as their image quality improves and their prices decrease. An overview of ten color laser printers is provided. Image quality issues are addressed with information on each printer's resolution, continuous-tone emulation, the availability of a Fiery XJE controller and frequency-modulated (FM) screening. Speed issues are considered based on engine speed, the number of internal fonts, JPEG compression capabilities and autoduplexing. Information is also provided on hardware interfaces and maximum paper sizes.
