The research made analyzes the extent that university presses in the United Kingdom are involved in the evolution of scholarly communication and in the shift from traditional print material of scholarly works to the electronic environment. The university press is defined as a publishing house associated with a higher education institution, bearing its imprint, and primarily devoted to publishing scholarly, low-profit works.

A scramble from Africa? Publishing in the global economy
Article Abstract:
The seminar 'Scramble from Africa' conducted with the aim to raise awareness and raise issues within the international book trade, is focused. Two of the seminar's paper, 'social and economic development in a global system need strong local publishing and information access' and 'building democratic information infrastructures: appealing to altruism is not enough' are discussed.
